Do your desktop and browser fonts look horrible in comparison to Windows or OSx? Try these tips!
Tips to Nice(r) Linux Fonts:
Firstly, install Microsoft Core Fonts. Under Ubuntu I go Applications > Add/Remove and in the search box type font, find Microsoft Core Fonts and install them.
Next, if like me you run at resolutions (I run 1280×1024) with aspect ratios unfriendly to the standard theme that comes with your favourite distribution, change your fonts! Here’s what works for me under Ubuntu and GNOME:
Under System > Preferences > Fonts
I use DejaVu Sans Condensed Condensed for all but the fix width font where I use DejaVu Sans Mono Book.
I like to run 10 pixel for Application, Document and Fixed Width, 11 for Title and Desktop.
Now here’s the most imporant part! Use Subpixel Smoothing (LCD’s) even if your not using an LCD! Anything else looks horrid and BOLD on my system.
That’s all.
Now have fun browsing now with readable fonts!
